The artist
Having traveled through nature on horseback for years, Fanny RUELLE draws inspiration from her encounters and discoveries, and transcribes her impressions through multiple techniques: drawing, sculpture, painting . Her passion for horses and her fascination for nature instill in her a creative energy that has carried her since childhood.
Self-taught, she followed this clearly defined path of life, taking advantage of her school career to study applied arts and graphic design at the Lycée Jeanne d'Arc in ROUEN for 5 years. (Baccalaureate in Applied Arts and BTS in Visual Communication)
She left for Paris and began working in a pre-press agency for publishing. On this occasion, she illustrated numerous books and weekly booklets for Hachette publishing, which would distribute certain titles in more than 19 countries.
Since 1995, she has pursued a career as a freelance illustrator for publishing and the press, particularly equestrian, moving from naturalist, anatomical drawing to uninhibited humorous drawing.
From these wanderings were born, among others, the characters of Lilou and Filou (a young rider and her horse), comic book heroes , whose adventures were published in two volumes, in 2014 and 2015 by Glénat, for which she is preparing the sequel for March 2025.
At the same time, she sculpts horses and earth animals, drawing and volume being intimately linked for her.
Artistic way
An illustrator specializing in the representation of horses , Fanny RUELLE often uses pen, ink and Photoshop to bring to life her humorous horses, which have pranced through the pages of the specialist press for 18 years.
But she has not abandoned her taste for traditional techniques such as watercolor, gouache , and more recently, oil .
His precise and perfectionist style is found both in the outline of his humorous drawings and in the meticulous details of his naturalist drawings.
She loves the perfection of an inked and graphic line as much as the spontaneity of a watercolor brushstroke on the grain of the paper. These concerns are also found in her sculpture work. It is a permanent search for renderings as different from each other as she continues to explore according to her inspirations.
When a horse comes out of the ground, it is its beauty, its impetuosity and its strength that inspires and expresses it.
Through painting and watercolor , it is more often birds and their fragile beauty that cover his paper boards.
Always learning, she likes to explore new paths as she meets new people and finds new inspiration.
She is equally passionate about primitive graphics and popular traditions from around the world, which has led her to create numerous Breton and Celtic style graphics. The arts and refinement of Japanese culture also inspire her greatly, especially the contrast between the art of gardens and very coded traditions, compared to the wild and magnificent nature of this country.
Nature is beautiful, generous and fragile, and this is what she tries to express through her works, so that everyone wants to preserve it for generations to come.
